Spencer Opal Triplet
23mm X 23mm Freeform with a 2.5mm girdle 21.1 ct
The Spencer Opal mine is located in Spencer, Idaho, North of Idaho Falls.
The structure and characteristics of Spencer opal is vastly different than any other opal on the market or in the world. The rough has to be delicately ground down by hand, uncovering layer upon layer, a millimeter at a time. The hardest part about cutting opal is knowing when to stop. I think this one speaks for itself, with its bright saturated flash of the more rare and sought after oranges and yellows.
This beauty is backed with a basanite backing and capped with a crystal clear Brazilian quartz top, using a museum grade (non-yellowing) epoxy.
It is 100% a jewelry stable opal.
Having now cut hundreds of opals, I can without a doubt say, that this is the best one I have ever seen and cut. Cutting Spencer opal is a labor of love, but as you can clearly see, it's so incredibly worth it.
